Green Roofing - and its benefits?


Green roofing is to turn the traditional roof of buildings into more environmentally structure by making it partially or completely planted with vegetation. Now it is the intention of all public building to cover with vegetation in the future such as schools as we see in the photos below.





























There are many benefits to have green roofing, Some of these are the 
following:
·         Energy-saving: the use of green roofing system can considerably reduce energy consumption both during summer and winter seasons. During summer, the heat of the sun can’t penetrate the building interiors as we see in the figure below.  Plants, as we know it, help saving an ideal temperature. Thus, it helps reduce cooling load. This is also true during winter. Roofs covered with layers of soil insulate building interior from cold weather. Several studies suggest that the use of this system can reduce 50% to 70% percent of energy consumption.

·         Environment-friendly: as we know the role of plants in the process of generating clean air and producing of oxygen, so green roofing   help filter pollutants from the environment, and this is particularly important in urban communities. This helps people around breathe in a cleaner atmosphere. In addition to that, it also helps reduce the use of synthetic roofing materials usually installed in traditional roofing system.

·         Reduce noise pollution: the layer of green roofing absorbs the noise generated by industrial city, like traffic noise and other noises from close proximities are reduced by green roofing system. This is helpful most especially for buildings erected near the airports, factories, and busy freeways.


·         Increase roof lifespan:  although the initial cost is bigger than the traditional roofing system, it is far more advantageous when we look in the future, this increases roof lifespan. Thus, it will save money for maintenance in the long run.

·         Increase real-estate value: since green roofs have lots of benefits, the real estate value of the property will increase. Thus, this is a good way to improve your home to increase its price if you don’t have any other ideas for  improvements .

·         Improve Aesthetics: in addition to the benefits mentioned above, it helps improve the overall appearance of a green-roofed building. This does not only create a pleasant place for people inside the building, but it is something that can be proud from other people around the community will surely appreciate the beauty and the uniqueness of the green roof you have.
